Jessica Champagne Hansen is an award winning freelance costume designer and technician with experience in theater, dance, film, television, commercials, theme park, and corporate clients. She is an educator in costumes and makeup and a published author.
She has worked in design and construction for Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, Tide, Girl Scouts of America, Kaiser Permanente Educational Theater, Garry Marshall Theatre, Impro Theatre, The Troubies, The Actors Co-op, Aquarium of the Pacific, The Lyric Theatre, South Coast Repertory, The Met Theater, Stonebound Productions and Poptent, among others. She is Ovation nominated for Best Costume Design in a Large Theater for her design of The Root Beer Bandits at the Garry Marshall Theater and for Best Costume Design in an Intimate Theater for her design of Miracle on 34th Street with the Actor's Co-op. She is a member of United Scenic Artists, Local 829, IATSE.
Jessica is faculty at East Los Angeles College, and developed a costume and makeup program as part of their degree offerings with specialty certificates. She has also taught costuming at California State University, Long Beach, Culver City High School, South Coast Repertory, Cerritos College, UC Irvine, Tufts University, Newton Country Day School and Arlington Center for the Arts.
Jessica received an MFA in Costume Design from University of California, Irvine, CA and a BFA in Costume Design & Technology from Emerson College, Boston, MA with a degree minor in Theater Education.
Jessica is co-author of "Navigating a Career in Technical Entertainment, Creative Career Guidebook" with Camille Schenkkan, currently available for preorder on Focal Press by Routledge and Amazon.
Jessica's article "Theatre Artist by Day, Cosplayer by Night" for USITT Magazine won a Herbert D Greggs Merit Award in 2019. She authored a chapter in "Theatre Artisans and their Craft" by Rafael Jaen and Holly Poe Durbin. Her costume work is published in the "The Art and Practice of Costume Design" edited by Melissa L Merz, "Showcase" by Rafael Jaen, "Developing and Maintaining a Design-Tech Portfolio" by Rafael Jaen, and "Digital Design for Custom Textiles" by Amber Marisa Cook.
